SIP trunking adoption set to rise to 62 percent by 2017, says Infonetics
As more businesses see their premises-based PBX systems come to the end of life, more North American businesses say they are increasingly using SIP for a part of their voice connectivity requirements. According to a new Infonetics study, 45 percent of respondents already use SIP for a part of their voice connectivity requirements, rising to 62 percent by 2017 as the use of legacy trunks such as T1s declines.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the motivator for businesses to move to SIP trunking is not cost, but rather flexibility, easier management and greater reliability. Despite seeing an uptick in migrations, Infonetics notes that not that many businesses have made a full conversion to SIP trunking. For those businesses that have deployed SIP trunking, SIP represents less than 50 percent of their voice trunk capacity. Release
